In crossed roller bearings, a small amount of clearance is usually provided to accommodate thermal expansion and ensure proper functioning. However, excessive clearance can lead to reduced precision and increased vibration. Preload, as mentioned earlier, is used to eliminate excessive clearance and improve bearing stiffness.
